42   Revision of register



   42. Revision of register---(1) The Registrar may at any time, and
 shall if the Council so orders, inquire, by notice to any medical
 practitioner, whether or not the practitioner---
   (a) Wishes to have his or her name retained in the register; or
   (b) Has ceased to practise medicine.

   (2) If no reply is received to a notice under this section within 6
 months after it has been sent, or if the notice is returned undelivered
 to the Registrar, the Council may order the Registrar to remove from the
 register the name of the medical practitioner to whom the notice was
 sent.

   (3) Notwithstanding anything in section 137 of this Act, any notice
 under subsection (1) of this section shall be sent by registered post,
 addressed to the medical practitioner at his or her usual or last known
 place of residence or business.

   (4) If the Council believes on reasonable grounds that any medical
 practitioner has died, it may order the Registrar to remove the name of
 the practitioner from the register.
